Discover DeCrypt is the charity established to manage the Church of St Mary de Crypt and the Old Crypt Schoolrooms. A board of trustees chaired by the rector works closely with the Parish Church Council to make sure the buildings are appropriately maintained and made available to the public. Since refurbishment in 2018 the buildings have been open to the public for worship and services, community activities, heritage visits and education with a range of volunteering opportunities and affordable space to rent for local groups. Day to day management is led by the Operations Manager and the Community, Arts and Events Manager with a pool of Duty Managers to help with out-of-hours events. There is also a part-time cleaner and an invaluable community of volunteers.
Volunteers are at the heart of Discover DeCrypt. From welcoming visitors and sharing their passion for heritage to making coffee or litter-picking in the churchyard, our volunteers bring their warmth, sense of humour and generosity to the project. As George Whitefield said, a church lives not in its stones but in its people…
