Folk meets classical. Europe meets Africa. A concert experience to remember. Chris Roberts plays guitar for the launch of his debut album, Adra.
Chris is an innovative and exciting young guitarist whose performances have been praised for their ‘beautifully varied timbres, […] real virtuosity,’ and for being ‘simply mesmerising’. His debut album Adra, released on Tŷ Cerdd Records, features the ancient bardic music of Robert ap Huw alongside new commissions, Welsh folk arrangements and West-African music. Throughout his studies at Cardiff University and Royal Birmingham Conservatoire he was awarded numerous awards and scholarships for both performance and pedagogy.
Chris is passionate about allowing as many people as possible to access music. For this reason, he founded, and is Artistic Director of, the annual Cardiff Guitar Festival. Now in its fourth year, the charity runs outstanding concerts and summer schools, and raises funds to take live music into the community and to award course bursaries and free concert tickets to families in financial need. The festival has featured many internationally renowned performers such as Craig Ogden, Derek Gripper, Laura Snowden, Graham Anthony Devine, Daniel Martinez and the Eden Stell Guitar Duo. Chris also works as a musician for the esteemed programmes Live Music Now and Music in Hospitals and Care, regularly performing in care homes, Special Educational Needs and Disabilities schools, and in interactive concerts for babies and toddlers.
