Dweller in the Shadows

Ivor Gurney (1890-1937) wrote some of the most anthologized poems of the First World War and composed some of the greatest works in the English song repertoire, such as “Sleep.” Yet his life was shadowed by the trauma of the war and mental illness, and he spent his last fifteen years confined to a mental asylum.
Gurney’s biographer, Kate Kennedy, will give a talk exploring the local composer and poet’s works and life which was haunted by his experiences in WW1, and his struggles with mental illness. . There will also be original documents from the Gloucestershire Archives on display. A poignant and immersive experience in the beautiful surrounding’s of St Mary de Crypt
