‘In most religious education children are told who God is. In Godly Play children discover who God is.’
This practical, hands-on course is open to all, and will develop your ability to use the Godly Play approach in your own church or community. The three day course will run from 8.30am until 6.30pm on Monday 16th and Tuesday 17th March and from 8.30am to 5.30pm on Wednesday 18th March. Trainers: Sian Hancock and Alison Summerskill.
The cost of £320 for the three day course includes lunches and a training handbook. Bursaries are available in cases of need. Please contact [email protected] for booking and further information.
Godly Play is one of several variations of the Montessori tradition of religious education. Developed originally as a resource for children, Godly Play is now being used with a wide range of age groups in a diversity of settings. It is used in churches, schools, care settings and hospitals, and among people with and without formal religious faith.
A creative and imaginative approach to Christian nurture, Godly Play is based on long-established, tried and tested approaches. It uses symbols and objects as well as words; values process, openness and discovery and encourages people to make meaning for themselves.
Godly Play invites listeners into stories and encourages them to connect the stories with personal experience. Its four genres explore Sacred Stories (Old and New Testament), Parables, Silence and Worship (Christian festivals and sacraments).
