It Takes One Woman
September 9 @ 11:00 am - September 30 @ 3:00 pm
The remarkable story of The Rev’d Florence Li Tim-Oi, the first woman to be ordained in the Anglican Communion.
During World War II a young Chinese Christian working as deaconess in Macao, was given permission to celebrate communion in the absence of a male pastor, and later ordained, years before women’s ordination was agreed by the Church. This exhibition tells how this came about and what happened afterwards. Her story plays a key part in the movement of the Church towards equality and is an extraordinary testament of faith, endurance and hope.
The exhibition runs alongside The God Who Gave You Birth, the beautifully illustrated book by Eloise Hopkins.
Please note that we will be open 11.00am-3.00pm on Monday 14th September for Heritage Open Days, but closed on Tuesday 15th September.
