Women at the Well
July 21 @ 11:00 am - September 19 @ 3:00 pm
Until the end of September we are pleased to be displaying the locally crafted ‘Women at the Well’ banner at Discover DeCrypt.
This banner was made by women from Gloucestershire in 2021, during a short-term creative project called Women at the Well.
Using Zoom as their meeting space, the 30 women, mostly from Christian and Muslim backgrounds, looked at Scriptures from the Bible and the Qur’an on women at water sites. They used these to talk about faith, personal change, and the environment. With COP26, the UN Climate Change Conference happening in the United Kingdom this Autumn, this is an optimum time to re-examine all aspects of our lives. ‘Clean water and sanitation for all’ is the UN’s sixth sustainability goal, and many of the craft panels you will see reflect water, and tears over loss.
Quilling, the technique used, involves rolling, shaping and gluing strips of paper together to create decorative designs. During the Renaissance, French and Italian nuns and monks used quilling to decorate book covers and religious items.
