Family Fun outside for Half Term

During the summer half term holiday Discover DeCrypt will be running some special events for families to explore the wild side of the churchyard.

On Thursday 3 June we’ll be Getting Arty with Nature: we’ll be using natural materials to make our own artworks, sketching the plants and flowers we find, and looking at how nature produces ‘art’ all by itself. Book here:

Friday 4 June is All About Birds. See how many different kinds you can spot. Can you recognise their song?  Where are they nesting? What do they eat? We’ll be providing activity sheets and identification guides, but feel free to bring your own bird-spotting guide and a pair of binoculars if you have them. Book here:

Saturday 5 June is Squirrel Watch: have you ever really spent time watching squirrels? These furry rodents have made the churchyard their home. Did you know a squirrel can rotate its ankles 180°? That’s why it can climb down a tree head first. Squirrels are really good at adapting to human environments and become quite tame. Join us for Squirrel Watch to find out more about our cheeky churchyard residents. Book here:

Sunday 6 June We’re All Going on a Bughunt!  There are loads of mini-beasts in the churchyard. We’ll be turning over stones and peeking beneath leaves to see what we can discover about the secret lives of insects. Book here:

Please book in advance or if you have any questions drop us an email at [email protected]. Sessions run from 11.00am until 12.30pm. Children of all ages are welcome but under 12s must be accompanied by an adult. Please bring a sketchpad or paper and pencil (colour pencils too if you like) and a raincoat if the weather is showery as we will be outside. Refreshments (and toilets) are available in the Schoolroom.  These events are free but we would really welcome a donation to help us cover costs.
